Rentboy Mounts Its Defense

Yesterday was a day that changed modern sexuality. First there was there was the raid on the Rentboy offices by the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI, followed by the headlines splashed across the media. Seven people, including Rentboy CEO Jeffrey Hurant have all been released on bonds ranging from $50,000 to $350,000. Working on their defense has already begun.

NY1 caught up with Hurant following his release along with and Anthony Rico, an attorney for one of the defendants, and filed this report:

 
“They’re very serious charges, but the case involves First Amendment issues and the use of technology and as a society catching up with the technology, and we see that at play in this case,” ~Anthony Rico.

 

Rentboy has retained the services of leading industry attorneys Lawrence Walters and Gill Sperlein. Speaking to Xbiz, while Walters acknowledged their ability to comment remains restricted, he told the publication:

“I can say that the charges come as a complete surprise to the company, but we have seen state and federal authorities seeking to impose increasing blame on advertising networks, which play a passive role in the advertising process. Until additional information is made available about the basis for the charges, we will be unable to comment further.” ~Lawrence Walters
